Feminism purports to concern itself only with equality - but in reality propagates mistrust, tension and hatred between the sexes.

I believe Cecily is referring to events in the BIBLE, not historic events. She means that if Christianity was all about oppressing women, the women in the Bible would have been given a less substancial role.

Cecily you are ignorant of history. It was 77,000 Christian Men, Serbs including the Crown Prince Lazar of Serbia. Who gave their lives at the Field of the Blackbirds in Kosovo defending the Christian West from the Ottoman Turks.

It was Charles the Hammer Martell at the Battle of Tours who defeated the Moors and prevented Gaul (France) from falling to Islam. This led later to the Spanish Christians expelling the Moors from Andadulsia.

It was 75,000 Christian Men who died at the Gates of Vienna with John Sobeski the Polish Lion of the North. Not a Woman in sight. Who defeated 150,000 Moslems and saved the West from Islam. I wonder if your Woman's studies professors ever revealed this history or other historical events to you? I seriously doubt it.

How ridiculous, considering that Christianity was the first religion to roundly condemn things such as the exposure of infant girls, and I'd love them to find another major religion whose texts showed women as major players in major events, even as the men involved were showing cowardice and disbelief. The male disciples, with the exception of John, fleeing the Crucifixion while the women stayed faithfully; the WOMEN being the ones first at the tomb, braving the dark and the soldiers they knew would be there, and not even knowing what they would do about the stone, all to anoint the Body, and then learning of the Resurrection, running to tell the men, and the men disbelieving them. A religion used to hold women in bondage would not give them the starring roles while showing the men in an unflattering light.
What bunk.

Regarding above Randall Shake October 14, 2008 at 9:03 pm, and generally...

The only reason liberalism --and feminism specifically as its jewel-- has any power is 'cause the christians keep fighting its wars for it.

Chrsitians are uniquely susceptible to the demagoguery feminism uses.

Upon reading the passage again, I discover that the statement was NOT made by a feminist after all. Well. . . that'll teach me not to skip over things so quickly! :(

STILL. . . I cannot help wondering what the average feminist would make of such a statement. What, according to the feminist world-view, IS the final source of "authority"— moral, political or otherwise?

Good luck getting a straight answer out of them! ;)

EF: This is a great post, and I could write an entire pamphlet of commentary. But here is one thing that really pokes me in the eye like a hangnail:

<i> "Ultimately feminism is about the rejection of ALL AUTHORITY except that of the self."</i>

Coming from a feminist, that is an ASTOUNDING statement. On the one hand, it is just the sort of moral relativism you might expect from them. On the other, it is a GLORIOUS GIFT ON A GOLD PLATE!

Think of it: I can now reject ALL AUTHORITY except that of Fidelbogen. This means that <b>feminism has no authority over Fidelbogen.</b>

Now <b>that</b> sounds like a power-sharing plan I can live with! ;)
