Feminism purports to concern itself only with equality – but in reality propagates mistrust, tension and hatred between the sexes.

If feminists celebrate criminals and losers, what does it say about feminism?

Can I just say that I have always ejenyod reading the discussions between newswithnips and Linda Radfem because they are such good proponents of lib and rad feminism respectively, and there is a spirit of good faith and good will in your debates that is quite rare between advocates of these forms of feminism (particularly on the intertubes). While I agree with Linda about what the male commenters on this thread have achieved, I do think that since newswithnips is a self-identified small l liberal feminist we rads can hardly demand that she not engage with the concerns of the male commenters on her own blog. The methods of dealing with male responses to feminism advocated by the two branches of feminism are a source of some of the deepest rifts between the two groups (who would have thought we’d fall out over men?!) Liberal feminism holds that a clearly expressed, indubitably logical feminist argument delivered courteously must influence a reasonable listener, male or female. Radical feminism holds that most men are too heavily invested in the status quo to let truth threaten their privilege. This is a well known difference between our two camps. Let’s not have too big a barny over it.

That depends. If it celebrates criminals and losers of both sexes, then they might really be on to something!
Of course feminism only celebrates criminals and losers if they’re women. Because then they’re “rebels” and “victims” as opposed to all the “pathetic”, “violent” and “insecure” male equivalents.

The right-hand portrait, if I am not mistaken, is an image of the disease known as “amy-winehouse”. . .?
I’m not a personal follower of that disease, so I mustn’t be expected to be entirely sure of this.

I must disagree with both sides of the equation.
The left side is nothing less than simplistic image men have had of women for centuries and enforced both socially (de facto) and legally (de jure). The right side depicts every woman who fights for equal rights as a trashy slut.
Both are wrong. “Desperate Housewives” is NOT just the name a TV show. And wanting to be paid the same as men for the same work, and also to get rid of the insulting ‘mommy track’, does not turn a woman into an ill-dressed whore.
I will acknowledge that the feminist movement has of late been hijacked by men-hating harpies…but that does not excuse the sentiment which imprisoned women as second-class citizens in the kitchen.

Well, another way to analyse feminism is that affluent Western women have abdicated their biological function as mothers, and shifted the responsibility for procreation to the poorer darker females of the world. Nothing new actually, this is what priveleged women have always done.
And the birth control pill allows women to be as sexy as they want without reproductive consequence (with abortion as the failsafe). It may be a brave new world, but what are these modern femmes showing us exactly, that vanity and self-absorption are good?
